She does not talk a lot and when she does it is often surprisingly deep and very thought-provoking. She can seem very serious and philosophical a lot of the time but she also loves to have fun and has a good sense of humour. When she is around people she trusts and feels comfortable around, Twyla can become a rather lively person. She can be rather humorous and enjoys playing around with those she feels connected to.
When people first meet her, they tend to think that Twyla is shy but it is quite the opposite. When she first meets people, Twyla prefers to observe and analyze who they are before engaging in in-depth conversation. She can engage in small talk but she prefers to have more meaningful and deep conversations with those she feels a sense of connection.
Twyla is also a very creative and imaginative person who loves to express herself through the arts. She loves to write, dance, play music and draw. She is also very fashionable and loves to design new outfits for herself and others. The majority of Twyla’s clothing are things she has made herself or have been adapted from pieces of clothing that she bought at second hand stores. She loves to work with the styles and themes of the Victorian era and her clothing and fashion style often reflects that.
Brief History/How they got into the Academy: Twyla grew up in the fashion industry as mother does fashion marketing and has many connections with various established Canadian designers and upcoming Canadian designers. From a young age, Twyla learned the basics of fashion design and fashion marketing from her mother, her mother's colleagues and from designers who took a shine to the quiet but intelligent and curious little girl who would spend hours looking through the fashion magazines and cutting out the pictures to create rather 'impressive and whimsical' new outfits and styles. As Twyla got older, she began spending more time with the designers asking them questions, learning to draw and learn the process of designing and making clothing. By the time Twyla was 12, she had already done a few apprenticeships with designers like Rani Kim and Som Kong.
Around this time, Twyla started to become interested in writing as well. Ever since she was very young, Twyla had loved books and reading. As she got older, she began trying her hand at writing her own stories. She spent a lot of time refining her stories and when she was 15, Twyla sent in one of her stories into a regional writing competition. Her story one first place in her region and made it all the way to the national level. There is it received third place among the millions of entries that were submitted and selected.
When Twyla heard that the SanFransokyo Institue was looking for talented individuals to join their university, Twyla quickly assembled her design portfolio which composed of picture of outfits she had created, her drawings and designs as well as letters of recommendation from the designers she had worked for in the past and people in the fashion marketing industry for whom she had worked for as well. Twyla also included some samples of her stories and poetry and wrote a letter detailing why she wished to attend the academy and what she hoped to gain from this experience. She was accepted and received a scholarship to go towards her degree in Fashion Design.
