Hello my dearest students. My name is Ms. Finklestein but please, call my Sally. I know many of your professors are strict on names, but I am not. Here, we are equals and I am merely here as your guide. Now, on with the Tour! These are the lovely desks you will be working at. Think of them as your stations of knowledge. Each desk seats two people. Your desk mate will be your lab partner. I encourage you to get to know your lab partner since you will be working very closely with him/her. However, if a problem does arise, adjustments can be made.
Fun fact about me: I adore baking. When I'm not teaching, I'm baking so get ready for a lot of chemistry themed treats. Please, help yourself to one!
Since this is chemistry, you will be working very closely with the elements of the periodic table. I used to give out paper copies to my students but they often got lost in the chaos of college life, so to save a few trees I had a large version put on the wall. Each square was decorated by the former classes as a final project. At the end of the year, you will get to decorate a square as well so be thinking what you want to do!
This area will be located at the left of the classroom. I prefer to Keep things neat and organized to prevent disasters. The too large windows are vents to suck fumes from the chemicals out to keep the air in the classroom nice and clean. The drawers and cabinates will be used to store classroom materials such as flasks and microscopes as well as spare paper, colored pencils, scissors, ect. Please consult me before getting into these drawers so I can better keep track of my things.
Each student will receive a laminated guide identical to this one as a reminded of the tools you will be using. Be sure to take notes in the first couple weeks of classes so you know what each tool is used for.
This is the cabinate where I keep the chemicals we will be working with. This cabinate is strictly off limits to students and will be locked. The only people who will have a key are me and my assistant. Keep in mind though, chemistry students, I'm still looking for an assistant. I will have an application available on the first day of class for anyone interested.
Last but certainly not least on our little tour here, on the far right wall will be a coat rack. Hanging on this rack will be your very own, Sanfransokyo Academy labcoats. Safty first in this class room. You will be required to wear this coat as long as you are in this classroom and during experaments, you will be wearing gloves and goggles as well. NO EXCEPTIONS. I would hate for anything to happen to any of you students and chemistry can be dangerous at times. Each coat will have the SA crest sewn into it as shown above as well as your last name. As long as you pass this class, you will get to keep that jacket as my gift to you (even if you are taking my class as only an elective). I look forward to meeting each of you in class!
Much love, Sally
