((This is an overall view of the Theatre. Not shown in the picture is the second smaller theatre where students will meet for classes.)
A few distances away from the main building of the Academy stands the Theatre Ténèbres, which is the performance space for all of the school's preforming arts. The building houses a lobby, large theatre with a prop shop, separate dressing/make up rooms, a green room for actors to relax and prepare themselves, a separate lobby area for gathering and post-show parties and costume and prop storage spaces.
((Main Theatre Lobby, Main Entrance))
By entering the main doors to Theatre Ténèbres, you will come to the lobby. It is a wide, airy spaces with light brown, tiled flooring, white marbled walls, a painted white ceiling. A few steps from the main doors and off to the side is a the reception area where tickets are sold. In the event that the Theatre Class is performing a show or Clopin decides to bring in his own Acting Company or invites a guest director, tickets will be sold here 3 weeks prior to Opening Night. Tickets will also be sold on the show nights but these are in limited supply. Students and Faculty of the SanFranyoko Institute of Technology can buy tickets at a discounted price.
If one is to follow the two very long red carpets of the main doors, they will be lead straight from the two main doors to the two doors of the Main Theatre.
((Main Theatre))
The Main Theatre is generally set up in the theatre style of a Thrust Theatre but this can be easily dismantled and the theatre set up can be changed to accommodate many different theatre set ups like the Round, Proscenium Arch and Traverse. For those of you who plan on taking either Theatre Performance or Theatre Production, these terms will be covered and it is expected that you will remember them. Neither Miss Audrey or Master Clopin will be very impressed if you forget. The Main Theatre is equipped to seat up to 500 people and has perfect acoustics throughout the entire theatre. When the theatre was built, sound and the way sound travels was taken into special consideration so that the space would be perfect for theatre performances, music shows and dance shows. However, even with all of the special considerations, it has been observed that the Theatre tends to create reverberate with a low hum whenever high pitched instruments like woodwinds are used or when there is a soprano singing. Clopin has 'jokingly' said that this tone is created by the theatre 'ghost' and refers to the 'ghost' as Bob.
((Green Room))
Even if it is not actually 'green', the Green Room is still a nice place to hang out, talk about Theatre with either Clopin or Audrey, or just study. It is open to students, theatre majors in particular, to come whenever they wish so long as it is during the hours that the theatre is operating. The Green Room is equipped with a small fridge, microwave and cupboard space at the back of the room where students can store food or snacks. Clopin and Audrey often make sure that there is some fruit and a carton of water bottles in the fridge and that the cupboards are stocked with a few bags of chips and boxes of granola bars for communal consumption. Theatre students are welcome to store things in the fridge but please make sure that you label your food with your name and the expiry date. Clopin and Audrey do a fridge clean out every week so if your stuff is not labelled then it gets tossed, no exceptions!
((Dressing Rooms with 'Inspirational' Posters Courtesy of Clopin and Audrey))
Just next door to the Green Room is the Dressing Room. The Dressing Room is can be accessed from a door at the back of the Green Room or via the hallway entrance. The Dressing room is large enough to hold 30 people comfortably with enough mirrors and counter space for 20 people to do their make-up simultaneously. There are also two non-gendered bathrooms and two non-gendered change rooms to change in if you are a little more modest than the average theatre student (most of which would probably just strip anywhere in the dressing room and not care). And because Miss Audrey and Master Clopin are such caring individuals, they have kindly tapped two 'inspirational' posters to the doors of the change rooms in order to encourage the students/actors.
((Theatre Workshop))
Behind the Main Theatre building there is a separate building where all the props and set pieces are built for the shows and plays. This area is the domain of Miss Audrey and woe to anyone who messes it up or use the tools improperly. This is also where those taking Theatre Production will meet for class. When you come for class, you can enter from a side entrance that connects directly with the Workshop as opposed taking the long way through the entire theatre building.
The Workshop is stalked with all sorts of building materials, paints and paint supplies, varnishes, motors, gears, power cords, fabrics and anything else you might need to built the ultimate set piece or prop! Or whatever Miss Audrey tells you to make. The Workshop is also equipped with lots of different tools ranging from simple hammers and screw drivers to sanders, hand saws, chop saws and table saws. It is important to Audrey that the space is kept neat and tidy. You use something, you put it back Exactly Where You Found It. Otherwise, you might not survive the next class.
((Second Theatre and Classroom))
Attached to the left side of the building is a second, smaller theatre where students will meet the Theatre Professor, Clopin, for classes. The Second Theatre has it's own front entrance but it can also be accessed directly from the dressing rooms in the Main Theatre. Because the Second Theatre doubles as the classroom, the floors are spring floors to allow for ease of movement and to prevent any ankle-related injuries. It can hold up to 50 people in the audience and 30 people can practice and learn the elements of theatre all together quite comfortably. It is set up in the style of a Proscenium Theatre and unlike the main theatre, this set up cannot be changed. The stage itself is about the same size as the Main Theatre, minus the thrust, and has exactly the same grid and stage set up so that for play rehearsals, students and actors can easily switch between the two theatres without having to reconfigure their blocking too much. The Second Theatre is also equipped with it's own Lighting board but it is very similar to the one in the Main Theatre so students who decided to pursue the Techincal and Production side of theatre should have no troubles adapting to the two different boards.
If in the event that students need to talk to Clopin or Audrey for whatever reason, you will mostly likely find Clopin in the Second Theatre or in the Green Room of the Main Theatre. Audrey will most likely be in the Green Room or the Main Theatre Workshop/Prop Shop area. If they is not in either of those places, check the Staff Room.
